Honours at Southdown Sports Club
Honours at Southdown Sports Club
The honours have been flowing at the Southdown Sports Club.
The club was honoured last week by a visit from Roger Draper, the Chief Executive of the LTA. He was keen to hear how more and more people from all parts of the community are enjoying tennis through the club’s excellent coaching programme, work in local schools, open and ‘taster’ days for juniors and adults, back to tennis programmes for ‘rusty racquets’ and a range of social and competitive opportunities to play at all levels.
Roger also shared the club’s delight at receiving recent planning approval for covered courts during the winter months and offered LTA support. This will enable the club to offer the community even better tennis facilities during wet weather.
Also last week, four of the club’s juniors were honoured for their achievements at the tennis AGM. The Jean Wheeler Trophy for the most improved girl under 14 was awarded to twins Antonia and Olivia Beauchamp. The Clark & Son trophy for the most improved boy under14 was awarded to Freddie Martin. The John Beddington Award for a junior who is a great overall asset to the club was presented to Luke Tomsett. The club is very proud of its juniors and their growing list of achievements.
The Portman Building Society trophy for an adult who has given outstanding service to the club over the years was awarded to John Edwards.
