Hockey at Southdown

On Saturdays  the club house is brimming with hockey players, both Lewes and visiting teams, to socialise and recount the games events over a beer. Regardless of whether you have played hockey before or are new to the game, we have teams to suit all abilities and are always eager to meet new players.

We have eight men's teams, four ladies teams and mixed sides. 

Mini Hockey - Junior Hockey at Southdown

Mini Hockey runs on Sundays from 10.00 am to 11.00am from mid September to end April.   This is a drop-in session and is open to children in Year 3 to 7 inclusive.   Hockey sticks are provided, children to wear sports clothing, training shoes and ideally shin pads and gum shields.  Mini Hockey is run by Louise Webster. Why bring my children to Lewes?

We offer a friendly, family atmosphere. You can grab a coffee in the club house for a peaceful chance to read the Sunday papers.  There is a fantastic new astro-turf pitch. Where better to learn your hockey? Nestled at the foot of the priory ruins in the shadow of Lewes castle. We enable younger players to progress from Mini Hockey to Junior and Lions hockey. There are specific leagues for youngsters such as Mercian under 16 and under 18. They can progress from there into the 13 adult teams. Currently we have ex-lion and lioness players contributing to every team in the club. There is even a 14 year old playing 2nd XI Mens hockey!

Coaching and Camps

We provide top class, quality coaching from England Hockey level 2 qualified coaches.  Our hockey camps are sponsored by InterSport of Lewes and cater for boys and girls aged between 8 and 16.
