England Hockey Women’s Vase, Round 4
City of Oxford 1 2
Lewes 1 4 (Goldsmith, Philp, Worth (2))
Lewes packed up their cars and set out for the long journey to
Oxford for the fourth round of the National Vase.
Lewes were put on the back foot from the whistle, with some deep
defending to stop themselves trailing 1-0 in the first five minutes.
Lewes fought back putting the Oxford goalkeeper under pressure,
but it was a defensive mistake that allowed Oxford to go 1-0 up.
Lewes managed to find their form and settle down, with some fantastic
passing between Tara Rogers and Tiffany Musgrave, who crossed the
ball beautifully to Jan Goldsmith who finished cleanly, drawing
Lewes back level. Lewes continued to pull the Oxford defence apart
going in at half time level, but convincingly the better team.
Lewes started the second half the way they ended the first, dominating
the play and gaining the reward when Anna Worth found the backboard
for Lewes’ second. Oxford created a few penalty corners and
netted one soft goal to draw level. Gaining strength from their
second goal, Oxford continued to drive at the Lewes defence, however
the Lewes backline of Helen Fuller, Sophie Philp, Sarah Hall and
Rosie Bloor never look threatened.
Building from the back Lewes released Carly Wise down the left
flank to feed the forwards and secure numerous penalty corners.
Philp secured the lead with the assistance of Bloor to go 3-2 up
and some aggressive hockey from player of the match Musgrave allowed
Worth to gain her second of the game and seal Lewes’ progression
into the next round.

Sussex Ladies League Premier Division
Lewes 1 14 (Petty (6), Philp (2), Worth (6))
Mid Sussex 1 1
Lewes had a double header weekend and cruised to a 14 -1 win over
bottom of the table Mid Sussex. This ensured that they go into next
weekend’s top of the table clash a point behind Brighton.
If Lewes continue to win, then they will make a very swift return
to the South League. It all depends on next Saturday’s game
versus Brighton and they have home advantage and a score to settle
- bring it on!
2 February 2008
Sussex Ladies League Premier Division
East Grinstead 1 0
Lewes 1 3 (Bloor, Clapp, Worth)
Lewes ladies 1st team secured a comfortable win over a much improved
East Grinstead side to keep the pressure on their nearest rivals
Brighton. Two brilliantly executed penalty corners from Suzy Clapp
and Rosie Bloor were followed by a neatly finished Anna Worth goal
and ensured the game was done and dusted midway through the second
half.
