Tennis Twinning Visit July 2017
The annual tennis twinning visit took place in Blois from Friday 21st July to Monday 24th July.
Our French hosts organised a very enjoyable week-end starting with drinks, canapés and dinner at their club on the Friday evening.
On Saturday we spent the morning with our host families and most visitors were taken to the lovely market in Blois to enjoy the display of local produce. After delicious lunches in our hosts’ homes we had to find the energy to tackle a long bike ride through countryside and forest from Cheverny to the very impressive Château at Chambord. Some of us returned to Blois by following the cycle path along the Loire. It was a great afternoon and we felt pretty pleased with ourselves at the end! In the evening we enjoyed dinner and drinks at the club.
On Sunday there was a fun tournament – with most games having players from France, Germany and England. We enjoyed playing on their clay courts as well as using their superb indoor facilities. Bill Adderley was the overall winner and was presented with a cup. In the evening we all met for dinner at a lovely riverside restaurant.
On Monday morning it was time to say goodbye until next July, over breakfast at a local hotel.
Next year’s twinning visit will be in Waldshut, which is on the Rhine, in a lovely area very near the border between Germany and Switzerland. It will take place between the 20th and 23rd July. Travel is fairly easy as we can fly to either Zurich or Basel.
It would be great for more members of Southdown to join us and enjoy the experience of a fun week-end and making friends with people from Blois and Waldshut.
