A Great Twinning Weekend!
Between 22nd and 25th July the Southdown Sports Club hosted the 2016 annual twinning weekend, welcoming twenty-two visitors from tennis clubs in Blois, in France and Waldshut, in Germany.
The visitors, who either stayed with host families or in a local hotel enjoyed a busy weekend starting with a reception at the Town Hall, hosted by the Mayor of Lewes, Graham Mayhew and dinner at the club. On the Saturday most of the visitors joined a day trip to London with a walk along the Thames to see the sights of the city, ending with a boat trip to Westminster. In the evening everyone enjoyed a dinner at the Southdown Sports Club. The twinning tennis tournament was held on the Sunday, and a barbecue lunch was served.
The twinning weekend offers a great opportunity to spend time with friends from France and Germany most of whom share an interest in playing tennis and every year new friendships are made.
A much appreciated grant from Lewes Town Council helped to make the twinning weekend possible, keeping up a tradition which has continued for over twenty-five years.
Next year the twinning weekend will take place in Blois in the last weekend of July and in 2018 it will be hosted by the tennis club in Waldshut.
We would be delighted to welcome new participants for the twinning weekend. If anyone is interested, please contact
